The design incorporates some of the trench's signature elements, such as the double-breasted button closure, windproof flap, and cinch belt at the waist, and is complemented by classic and unmistakably Barbour details, such as waxed cotton, embroidered logo on the pocket, and fine corduroy trim on the collar and cuffs.

Barbour was founded by British designer John Barbour in 1894, at the turn of the industrial revolution, as a manufacturer of jackets for hunters, jackets and tarpaulins for life in the country, ie the country gentleman.
